Reps/Sets Training involve doing one exercise, such as the bench press , for X number of reps before resting 2 to 4 minutes and repeating the same exercise for X amount of sets. From experience, the set count ranges for 4 to 6 sets. Next, you would move on to the next exercise and follow the same protocol so on and so forth.

The explanation is very simple – by getting enough rest between each set you will be able to perform each exercise with better form, and more Rep’s using more WEIGHT causing you to gain more STRENGTH which will result in muscle GROWTH. And the CONs, will be “Longer Workouts”, slower improvements in Endurance, and much slower FAT LOSS.

As I have gotten older and my testosterone levels continue to drop, I have had to adjust my training regimen to include more compound movements of my large muscle groups. If you read my previous post, muscle at 50+ and Still Running at 50, you will find that I have incorporated, FOR ME, the best of both routines to get the muscle fatigue and just the right amount of cardio for my sessions to not be counterproductive. If your workout becomes counterproductive, you might as well not do it at all. The name of the game is to get the right mix for you to accomplish your goals.
